Interior Health Update
James Kinakin, Peter Du Toit and Berni Easson from Interior Health (IH) gave the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Hospital District (CCRHD) Board an update on IH’s current and anticipated funding, projects, services, goals and priorities. Regarding the Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake, they explained that IH has submitted a revised concept plan for the hospital upgrade and has requested Ministry approval to move ahead and develop a detailed business plan.
MOU Renewed with Northern Health
The CCRHD Board renewed its Memorandum of Understanding with Northern Health. The Hospital District and Northern Health have had a MOU since 2003 to provide clarity around roles and information sharing for the planning and funding of equipment, clinical information technology and capital projects. The CCRHD typically provides 40 per cent of funding for hospital capital projects in the region.
Grant for Assistance Approved
The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) Board approved a grant for the upcoming “Breaking the Silence” conference. The Women’s Contact Society will receive a total of $1,000 jointly from Electoral Areas D, E, F, G, H, and L towards the two-day conference on sexual abuse.
Celebrating 50 Years
In 2018, the Cariboo Regional District will celebrate its 50th anniversary. The Board and staff have formed a committee to brainstorm ideas to make the milestone year memorable. Stay tuned for more details.
Area F Noise Bylaw Adopted

Post-Wildfire Consultations Coming Soon
The CRD is hosting a series of community consultations to gain public feedback about the CRD’s emergency response this summer. The consultations will happen in community halls throughout the region beginning October 29, and will use group discussions to help us understand where we can make improvements to our emergency response, what challenges are ahead for residents, and what supports are needed as residents recover from the disaster.
In addition to community consultations, a survey, school visits, Facebook live and other methods will be used to connect and gain feedback from residents throughout October and November. Further information will be available on the Cariboo Regional District Facebook page facebook.com/CRDEmergencyOperations or the website HERE.
CRD Directors had a successful week at UBCM in Vancouver at the end of September. Chair Al Richmond participated in a well-received panel presentation with the Mayors of Prince George and Kelowna regarding the summer’s emergency response. The CRD and City of Quesnel also received an award for the use of wood features in the new West Fraser Centre arena in Quesnel.
The Board had five meetings with Provincial Ministers as well as a joint meeting with the Premier and mayors of the Cariboo. These meetings covered a wide variety of topics with a focus on wildfire recovery and provincial support. Directors also met with staff from Northern Health and the Ministry of Citizen’s Services.
Additionally, all five of the Regional District’s resolutions passed during the resolution debates. These successful resolutions advocated for policy changes regarding agricultural dams, BC Hydro compensation, Board of Variance, fire mitigation strategy and the role of ranchers in wildfires.
