Water Quality Monitoring

The Cariboo Regional District is directed by the provincial Interior Health Authority regarding the type and frequency of water quality monitoring it performs. Water systems are monitored a minimum of once per month for the presence of bacteria and annually for chemical and physical properties.

Bacteria Monitoring

Bacteriological tests are performed routinely for total coliforms and fecal coliforms. The water is considered safe when: no sample contains more than 10 total coliform organisms per 100 ml and none of the coliforms are fecal coliforms; no consecutive sample from the same site shows the presence of coliform organisms.

Alexis Creek Water System

Total coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1
Fecal coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1

Forest Grove Water System

Total coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1  
Fecal coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1   

Lac La Hache Water System

Total coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1
Fecal coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1

108 Mile Water System

Total coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1
Fecal coliforms per 100 ml: Less than 1

All Cariboo Regional District water systems have exceeded the above requirements. Should these levels be exceeded, the Cariboo Regional District and the Interior Health Authority immediately take corrective actions.

Chemical and Physical Monitoring

Each water system is tested annually for chemical and physical properties and assessed for compliance with the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
