The Lac La Hache Community Trail opened in August 2012 and was built in partnership between the Cariboo Regional District, the Lac La Hache Community Club, and the provincial government through the British Columbia Recreation Program. Northern Development and the Cariboo Chilcotin Beetle Action Coalition also contributed to the trail’s development.
Located at the site of the popular South Cariboo Garlic Festival, the approximately 620m long trail, featuring a crushed gravel surface, begins at a large covered shelter and travels down to the lake edge where it meanders along the shoreline before coming to a wheelchair friendly bridge. After crossing the bridge, users can choose to loop back to the shelter or continue along the lake, enjoying picturesque views of Lac La Hache from several viewpoints.
At the trailhead, an information kiosk displays a map of the trail and an accessible outhouse is provided for visitors’ convenience.
The Garlic Festival Site is located approximately 22 km north of 100 Mile House. The trail can be accessed directly off of Highway 97. Ongoing management of the site is provided by the Lac La Hache Community Club.
