South Cariboo Regional Airport Minimize

108 Mile

The South Cariboo Regional Airport serves the South Cariboo area from 108 Mile.  It had a total of 1 471 plane arrivals and departures in 2008; 83 of these were medivacs. The airport meets a wide range of aviation needs and serves corporate, government,  and recreational users, and medical emergencies. Medevacs are the medical evacuation of emergency patients by air transportation.

The South Cariboo Regional Airport offers overnight parking, fuel facilities and related sales, a public waiting area with telephone and washroom facilities and a gift shop. Accommodation, dining facilities, and a golf course are within walking distance of the airport.

Special Events

Residents are invited to attend the Airport Day event every year to enjoy the activities and learn more about the aviation industry and, in particular, this valuable South Cariboo asset. Not only does the Regional Airport serve the basic transportation network needs of the South Cariboo and enhance the region's economic climate to perspective investors, it makes a significant impact closer to home each time a medevac is needed for a South Cariboo resident.

A Little History

Keeping the SC Regional Airport well maintained in order to facilitate medevacs on a year-round basis requires significant attention, particularly during Cariboo winters. The airport has a 4,877' x 75' asphalt runway. In addition, it is equipped with navigational equipment and a lighting system to allow traffic at night and during adverse weather conditions.

The airport is owned by the Cariboo Regional District and operated under contract by Nick's Rag and Tube. The contractor is responsible for the maintenance of the airport. The contractor reports to the South Cariboo Regional Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the airport and which includes representation from the three southern Electoral Areas, "G", "H" and "L", and the District of 100 Mile House.

During 1997, significant improvements to the airport were undertaken. The most notable improvements to the non-aviationist include the opening of the Aviators' Roost Gift Shop and the fencing of the airport which was made possible by a provincial grant from the Air Transport Assistance Program. In 1998, the Airport Commission received provincial funding for an overlay of the existing runway surface and the installation of weather and radio services.
